Bottle green or Hunter green?
Bluer and deeper than hunter green.
The color of old glass bottles.
Science
Old bottles are green because of iron. Ordinary sand carries traces of it, and unless glassmakers remove the iron or mask it, the glass comes out green.
Culture
Britain's motor-racing color is a deep bottle green. In 1903 the Gordon Bennett Cup was held in Ireland, because racing on public roads was illegal in Britain, and the British cars were painted shamrock green in honor of their hosts. See racing-colors.
