Terracotta or Salmon?
Earthier and darker than salmon.
Language
Terracotta is Italian for baked earth: clay fired hard, from flowerpots and roof tiles to statues.
Art
China's Terracotta Army, buried with the first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in 210 to 209 BCE, was once brightly painted: cinnabar red, malachite green, azurite blue and Han purple, a rare synthetic. When a figure is unearthed, the lacquer under the paint can curl in fifteen seconds and flake off in four minutes.
Kin
- Brick: Both are fired clay, reddened by iron
- Vermilion: The Terracotta Army was painted with cinnabar red
- Malachite: Ground malachite painted the soldiers' greens
