Hot pink or Magenta?
Pinker and softer than magenta, with no purple in it.
Its loud ancestor is shocking pink, launched by Elsa Schiaparelli in 1937 and inspired by a large pink diamond owned by Daisy Fellowes.
Design
Hot pink's loud ancestor is shocking pink. Elsa Schiaparelli launched it in 1937 with a perfume called Shocking, in a bottle shaped like a dressmaker's dummy, designed by the painter Leonor Fini. The bright, impudent pink became her house signature.
Kin
- Pink: Schiaparelli turned pink from sweet to shocking
- Magenta: Its purpler neighbor, born in a dye lab in 1859
