Thistle or Lilac?
Paler and greyer than lilac.
After the thistle flower.
Culture
The thistle is Scotland's emblem. James VII founded the Order of the Thistle in 1687 with the motto Nemo me impune lacessit, no one provokes me with impunity: touch it and it stings. The order claimed to revive an ancient one, which historians doubt; the thistle as a royal badge goes back to James III's coins in the 1400s.
Kin
- Green: The Order of the Thistle's own color is green
- Sky blue: Ireland's Order of St Patrick chose sky blue to stand apart
- Lavender: Another pale purple named after a plant
