Teal or Turquoise?
Much darker than turquoise, and slightly bluer.
Language
Teal is a duck. The male Eurasian teal has a green-blue band sweeping back from its eye, and that patch gave the color its name, one of many colors named after animals, like canary and taupe. It is usually dated as a color word to 1917, though some dictionaries find it only in the early 1920s.
Kin
- Canary: Another color named after a bird
- Taupe: Also named after an animal: taupe is French for mole
