Midnight blue or Navy?
Darker, richer and more violet than navy.
Crayola renamed its Prussian blue crayon Midnight Blue in 1958, after teachers said children couldn't relate to Prussian history.
Culture
In the 1920s the Prince of Wales, later the Duke of Windsor, wore evening suits in midnight blue instead of black. Under electric light, tailors said, it looked blacker than black, and in photographs it showed the cut better. Midnight-blue dinner jackets have been a classic since.
Kin
- Black: The blue said to look blacker than black under electric light
- Navy: Both blues came to fashion from men's uniforms and dress codes
