Cream or Ivory?
Yellower than ivory.
After the cream that rises on fresh milk.
Design
In the 1760s Josiah Wedgwood perfected a cream-colored earthenware and supplied it to Queen Charlotte, which let him sell it as Queen's ware. Creamware was cheaper than porcelain and filled tables across Europe: by the 1780s Wedgwood shipped most of his output abroad, including the vast Frog Service for Catherine the Great.
Kin
- Royal blue: Queen Charlotte again: her name is on both stories
- Ivory: Its whiter neighbor, named after tusk
- Ecru: Another pale color named after a natural material
